Attention all WFSC members, parents, friends, and beyond!
The Wichita Figure Skating Club is hosting its annual Mid-Continent Classic, March 20-22, 2026, at the Wichita Ice Center, and we need your help to make it a success! We have partnered with MKT Photography to offer a raffle for 1 free video/photo package for volunteers! Volunteer for any three slots OR six hours at Mid-Continent and receive an entry for the raffle. Double your chance by having your significant other volunteer too!
We are also having a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card! Each individual who signs up will get 1 entry! You may enter both contests, but you cannot win both prizes!
You must sign up on the Signup Genius to be eligible!
Volunteering is a great way to learn about competitions and get to know other parents in the local figure skating club and parents from other clubs!
We are asking everyone to sign up NOW so we can identify shifts not covered, well in advance. When signing up for volunteer slots, please do not worry about scheduling around your skaters’ events. You are here to support your skater, and we assume you will need to be covered if your skater competes during a scheduled shift. You can communicate any conflicts with us once the official schedule is released so you can be there for your skater.
Below is a link to volunteer and donate through Signup Genius. We encourage all members, family, and friends to sign up and help support their favorite athlete by volunteering at Mid-Continent 2026! Watch great skating and feel good about giving your time!
Areas where we need volunteers are the following:
- Skater/Coach Registration and Awards
- Ice Monitoring
- Announcing & Music – Relieving our Official Announcer & Music Coordinator
- Runner’s and Floaters
- Official’s Transportation
- Hospitality – Donations and Volunteering
Skater/Coach Registration & Awards
Responsibilities: Volunteers will greet competitors and coaches at the registration desk, check skaters in for the competition, pass out their swag bags, confirm their events and level, hand out credentials and answer questions to the best of their ability. Volunteers will also be announcing the winners for each event and handing out awards.
Perks: It is in the warmth, AND you can meet some great people! Plus, you get to see all those smiling faces receive awards!
Ice Monitor
Responsibilities: Volunteers will be stationed rink side and will check skaters in for their competition events and practice ice sessions. Ice Monitors are in charge of making sure all skaters of the group are present at the start of the session. Also, an opportunity to announce the beginning and end of each practice ice session.
Perks: Great view of the ice and will usually have a chair to sit upon, a snazzy clipboard and a walkie-talkie!
Announcing & Music
Responsibilities: Our official announcer & music coordinator will need occasional breaks (ice rinks are cold and nature happens). Relief announcers and music are stationed at the judges’ stage, rink side by the sound system. You will be playing the skater’s music – preprogrammed into a laptop for all events requiring music – Basically just pressing play and pausing when needed and making sure it’s on the right event. You will also announce the event name and skaters name to take the ice.
Perks: Channel your inner DJ, Talk Show host, or Sports Announcer! Plus, it’s a front row seat to all the action!
Runner and Floater
Responsibilities: Calling all adults and skaters (12+ years old)!!! Includes delivering paperwork between judges and the accounting officials. This position can also fill in for others when their skater is on the ice. Be flexible!
Perks: Everyone can help! You get to be rinkside and see great skating, but travel to the warmth after events. You also get some steps in!
Official’s Transportation
Responsibilities: Volunteers will be available to pick up officials, Friday afternoon/evening, flying into Wichita through Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport, and driving them to their lodging accommodations at Fairfield Inn & Suites Downtown. Also, there is availability to drive them to the airport from Wichita Ice Center, Sunday afternoon.
Perks: Meet the officials and show them around Wichita. It’s also a good reason to get your car tidy!
Hospitality
Responsibilities: Show our visiting coaches and Officials some Kansas hospitality while volunteering in the hospitality rooms. In addition to volunteers, we need food and supplies donated for the hospitality rooms.
Perks: Low pressure position, keep the food supply stocked and the coffee hot for happy officials and coaches.
